Nearly 220,000 people attended the Festival of World Cultures in Dún Laoghaire over the weekend.
Organisers said this represented a 10 per cent increase on 2005.
More than 150 artists and groups from around the world descended on the Dublin coastal town as the three-day festival got under way on Thursday night.
Artists from 50 countries - including Algeria, Tibet, Sudan, Australia, Cuba, Poland, Niger, Russia and Mexico - featured in more than 160 events in the 40 venues.
The festival was made up of global music, street theatre, dance, club nights, markets, exhibitions, workshops and activities for children.
The 72-hour festival opened Thursday night with a preview performance by the Korean Dasom Dance Company.
There were sell-out performances from the Marzoug Band, Ska Cubano, Gnawa Trance, and most of the tickets were taken for the cooking demonstrations from Cooks Academy.
Crowds also packed into the garden of the Kingston Hotel for a free concert by Mundy, and two new events, the Traditional Costume show and the Intercultural Speed Dating, were sold out on both nights.
The festival also featured a global village which involved an outdoor market with crafts and foods from over 94 countries which was run in association with Oxfam Ireland.
