A presentation on a feasibility study on re-opening a railway line from Clonsilla to Dunboyne is to be made to Meath county councillors next month.
The study is being undertaken by a steering committee comprised of officials from Iarnród Éireann, Meath County Council, Fingal County Council and the Dublin Transportation Office.
The re-opening of the line will require funding of between €50 and €100 million, in addition to a new station in the Dublin docklands.
Councillors in Meath asked Iarnród Éireann to carry out the study last year and the first draft of the final report was presented to council officials in December.
The study focused on just the first phase of the line, a five-mile stretch from Clonsilla and Dunboyne.
It recommends three new stations - at Hansfieldstown in north Fingal, Dunboyne and another just north of Dunboyne where a 'park-and-ride' facility would be built.
The development of the line is a priority for Iarnród Éireann, but who will pay for it remains to be decided.
