DOZENS OF Dutch football fans packed into Sinnots Bar last night to watch their team play Spain in the world cup final.
Hearts were in Dutch mouths when Robben went one-on-one with the Spanish goalkeeper in what was Holland’s best chance of the game. Iniesta’s winner in extra time silenced the substantial Dutch contingent in the St Stephen’s Green bar.
Tim Uittenbroek from Amsterdam was disappointed but said Spain was the deserved winner based on their performances during the tournament.
“It’s a pity Robben didn’t score those chances he had during the match but on the bright side, Holland have become the only ever team to reach three finals and never win the World Cup so we’ve broken one record.”
Jessica Van Rijn from Utrecht was disgusted the referee allowed the Spanish winner to stand.
“I can’t understand how the referee didn’t give a free-kick,” she said. “There was an obvious foul, and it has cost Holland the chance of winning the World Cup.”
Kurt Jansen, clad from head to toe in orange, admitted they had chances to win the match, which they failed to convert. “We had our chances as much as Spain but we didn’t take them and in the end they cost us the match. You have to take your chances in football, and especially in a World Cup final against Spain.”
