Easy riders gear up for Cork festival

Attention, chopper fans - this has nothing to do with axes, it's all about custom-built chopper motorbikes

Attention, chopper fans - this has nothing to do with axes, it's all about custom-built chopper motorbikes. Later this month, more than 800 of the world's most valuable personalised choppers will converge on the north Cork village of Kilworth.

More than 1,000 bikers will camp outside the village and they will come from the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Norway. Organised by the Chopper Club of Ireland, the festival will run from August 27th to August 30th. With the agreement of Mr Michael Penruddock, the director of the Lismore estate, on which stands Lismore Castle, there will be an open day in the castle grounds on August 29th. Members of the public will be able to see customised bikes from all over the world, some of them valued at more than £25,000.

Most of the bikes are versions of the legendary American Harley-Davidson.

Mr Jimmy Hanlon, a Chopper Club official, says the event should be a milestone for motorcycle fans. For further information, Mr Hanlon can be contacted at 025-32543.
