Internet company eBay announced today that it is to create over 300 new jobs at its international headquarters in Dublin.

The online trading site along with online payment service PayPal, currently employs over 900 people at its offices in Blanchardstown.

The company, which was established in Ireland in 2003, plans to fill positions across a range of services including customer support, finance, operations support as well as senior management positions.

As part of the expansion plan, a lease has been signed on an additional building, the Atrium in the Blanchardstown campus and it is expected that some eBay staff will move there within the next six months.

Last year, eBay opened dedicated Irish eBay and PayPal sites as part of its continued investment in Ireland. There are over 181 million registered users worldwide and more than 78 million items available at any given time. eBay.ie and PayPal.ie allows over 200,000 registered buyers and sellers based in Ireland to trade in euros.

The company's European Customer Support Director Genny Tap said Ireland was chosen as a location because of its strong business and technology infrastructure as well as the range of experienced employees in the technical and financial services industry.

The announcement comes a day after Wyeth Laboratories in Newbridge, Co Kildare said it was shedding 250 jobs.
