March
TODAY at 7.30 p.m. there will be a Jewish-Christian seminar in Golding Hall (Adelaide Road Synagogue) on "The Hidden Encyclical: Pope Pius XI's Unpublished Letter on Anti-Semitism."
The seminar, organised by the Irish School of Ecumenics and the Irish Council of Christians and Jews, will be presented by Father Georges Passelecq OSB, of Maredsous Abbey Belgium.
Father Passelecq has succeeded in tracking down a manuscript of an encyclical letter by Pius XI condemning the growing antisemitism in pre-war Europe.
Pope Pius XI died in 1939 before his letter could be published and the manuscript disappeared into the Vatican archives.
Father Passelecq has published a book on this hidden encyclical, which is being translated into English.
