Have many people been struck, I wonder, by the change which has come over Dublin's quayside (or part of it, at least) at night time? To approach Eden quay from the Custom House square after dark is to come suddenly on a picture which reminds one inevitably of Paris and the Seine - incredible though it may sound. The row of lights across O'Connell Bridge is singularly effective; there is a flashing electric sign to the right, and two places of entertainment, one on either side of the river, are brilliantly illuminated; finally there is the long line of 'buses drawn up by the pavement, each of which, in addition to the usual lighting arrangements, carries high up a glowing orb of green or purple light. The cumulative effect is really rather wonderful, especially to those who remember the rather dismal aspect of this particular thoroughfare in pre-war days.
