Funding to the tune of £30,000 was granted by the Department of Education and Science to Women in Technology and Science (WITS) last week. The association is a voluntary organisation which promotes the participation of women in all areas of science, technology and engineering. The grant will fund the production of a pack for use in role model days at six colleges on a pilot basis, says Dr Jacqueline Allen of WITS. It will also fund a booklet with 40 career profiles.
The association will use the pack and its own expertise to help colleges prepare a series of role model days. The money was awarded through the Department's committee on equality of opportunity for girls and boys in education.
