FEILE GHAELACH, the festival celebrating Irish language and culture in third-level colleges, started yesterday and will continue until the end of the week. Tonight Kila play in the Warwick Hotel in Galway, while Breig are in Queens University. On Thursday, the "Cic Ass Ceile Ceilteach" will be held in the Tivoli in Dublin.

Bog the Donkey will play at the monster ceili and there will be an Irish-speaking DJ spinning the discs.

This is the second year of the festival, which started last year as a joint effort between NUI Galway and DCU. In NUI Galway, UCD, DCU, DIT, Dundalk IT, Queen's in Belfast and the University of Ulster events will be held which will give people an opportunity to exercise the native tongue.

Table quizzes, debates, lectures and games will feature in some of the colleges. In Galway there will even be a "blind date" game staged, with all contestants speaking in Irish. While the festival is a week-long event in Galway and DCU, other colleges will celebrate for just a day or two.
