If you're graduating this year and would like your future career to have a European dimension, you may like to consider applying for one of the courses offered by the College of Europe, which is based in Bruges, Belgium, and Natolin (Warsaw), Poland. The college was set up by the European Movement in 1949 and offers courses which it says, "closely follow the move towards European integration". The courses - in law, economics, politics/administration and human resource management - are of one year's duration and lead to a master's degree in European studies. The college's working languages are English and French, and "an excellent knowledge of French is an essential condition of admission", according to Fiona McCafferty, administrator at the European Movement's Irish office. Some 10 places are available to Irish students, and for three of these the Department of Education and Science is offering scholarships worth £8,000.

This amount covers tuition and food and accommodation costs only, and students have to finance their travel and other costs themselves, Fiona McCafferty says. The closing date for receipt of applications for the 1999-2000 academic year is next January 31st.
