SEVENTY of Ireland's top craftspeople will compete in the Department of Education's national apprentice competition in DIT Bolton Street next week. There are open days on Tuesday, March 26th (from 2 to 8 p.m.), Wednesday, March 27th (10.30 a.m. to 9 p.m., excluding lunchtime) and Thursday, March 28th (9.30 a.m. to noon) when the public can see the nation's top apprentices in action. Admission is free. Information on the various trades, training courses, educational requirements and career opportunities will be available. The skill finals will be in brickwork, cabinet-making, carpentry, construction steel work, fitting, graphic design, joinery, painting and decorating, plumbing, sheet. metal work and welding.
