It will be a tower of Babel for a week when 50 teachers from almost every country in the EU gather at Dublin Castle tomorrow for a weeklong training course. It will be delivered by a team of six Irish teachers and in-service tutors, all aiming to equip the visiting second-level teachers with the necessary skills for promoting positive behaviour and good discipline and preventing bullying in their schools.
The EU-funded course will set out to help teachers from schools in countries such as Italy, Spain, Finland, Greece and Slovenia, raise their students' achievement levels by improving the quality of the learning in schools. It is hoped that the course will also facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience and promote greater knowledge by teachers of the education system.
Organised by the ASTI in Ireland, the project will be launched by the Minister for Education and Science, Micheal Martin. There will be workshops, discussions, role playing and simulation exercises, presentations by experts form academic and educational agencies and presentations to the workshops by students, young people and parents.
