Full-time undergraduate courses:
DIT Kevin Street and TCD jointly offer a four-and-a-half year course in human nutrition and dietetics. Graduates are awarded a DIT diploma and a TCD BSc. The University of Ulster offers a four-year degree in human nutrition, specialising in the industrial or clinical areas.
Entry requirements:
DIT: The cut-off points in 1997/98 were 480* (random selection applied). Special subject requirement: C3 in higher-level chemistry. UU: Minimum of one B and five Cs in the Leaving Cert, including at least one higher-level science subject.
Nutritional science in UCC:
UCC offers a nutritional science degree which trains nutritionists for the food and healthcare industries, mainly in research and development, quality research and consumer education. Graduates of this course who wish to work in clinical dietetics can then apply for an 18-month postgraduate course in UU or in a number of British colleges.
British colleges:
A number of British colleges offer courses in human nutrition which provide state registration in dietetics. Most of these colleges have specific science requirements. Your guidance counsellor will have a copy of the official UCAS guide to university and college entrance in the UK.
