Course: Teagasc certificate in horse breeding and training is provided jointly by Kildalton Agricultural College and Grennan College in Co Kilkenny. A residential course, there are usually 20 first-year places.

Course structure:

Phase 1: nine months of classes and practical skills training

Phase 2: six months on work placement on a stud farm or training yard.

Entry requirements:

Certificate in agriculture or Pony Club C test or BHS/ICES level 2 or equivalent equestrian experience.

Advanced certificate:

On successful completion of certificate, selected students will be given opportunity to complete an advanced certificate. It will allow students to train young horses to competition standard.
