An open day on third-level options will be held for Leaving Cert students with disabilities on Friday, December 11th in O'Reilly Hall in UCD. Organised by the Association for Higher Education Access and Disability (AHEAD) and the Association of Graduate Careers Services in Ireland (AGCSI), the event will be hosted by UCD and facilitated by career advisers, disability liaison officers and graduates with disabilities.

BIM competition
A school competition to boost awareness of fish, organised by BIM, the Irish Sea Fisheries Board, and Northern Ireland Seafood, was launched in Belfast recently. The idea is to prepare a delicious seafood dish for yourself and three friends in just one hour with a budget of £10. Entry packs are being distributed to schools and there will be five regional finals. Closing date is Friday, December 11th. Prizes include Le Crueset cookware and a range of Sanyo equipment such as televisions, videos and hi fi items.

Exhibition
An exhibition by Irish artist Hilda Roberts is now on show at Newtown School, Waterford. Her work is on view daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Roberts, who died in 1982, was best known as a portrait painter during the Thirties and Forties. The exhibition also covers her social satires of Dublin life in the Thirties and her record of life on the Aran Islands and Achill around the same time.
Roberts' work will be in Waterford until Saturday, December 5th. It will then move to the RHA Gallagher Gallery in Dublin from Thursday, December 10th, to Sunday, December 20th; to Limerick's Hunt Museum from Thursday, January 14th, to Saturday, January 30th; and then to Cork's Crawford Municipal Art Gallery from Thursday, February 4th, to Saturday, February 20th.

A new website at http:// www.biores-irl.ie/biozone has just been launched. Called BioZone, it is aimed at informing schools and the public of the growing importance of biotechnology to our economy, environment and health. The site includes animated graphics explaining biotechnological processes and a glossary explaining scientific terms. There is also information on university courses and the biotechnology industry.
Role model day
A role model day offering senior-cycle students a chance to meet working scientists, engineers and technologists be held this Saturday at Cork IT. The programme starts with an introductory session with our own Anne Byrne, Careers & Guidance Correspondent, of The Irish Times , and Mai Kearns, guidance counsellor.
