TEACHERS can get even smarter next Saturday by learning about new library technology. Many of them who are responsible for the development of their school libraries are expected at a talk on the relevance of new technology to their activities.

The talk, "Computers! - A Guide Through the IT Maze", has been organised by the School Library Association - Republic of Ireland (SLARI) branch and will include practical applications for school libraries. It will be given in the library of St Andrew's College, Booterstown, Dublin, next Saturday.

Valerie Coghlan of SLARI explains that the association has found "that some of the members really don't know what people are talking about. We want to demystify those words. The talk is to take the fear out of it for people, to put them in a better position to access what their own requirements are in their libraries."

The technojargon will be explained by Hilary Hughes, assistant careers officer at The King's Hospital in Palmerstown, Dublin. The day will begin at 11.15am with a visit to the library at St Andrew's College conducted by school librarian Sue Millar.

Cost for the day, including lunch, is £8.50 (£6.50 for SLARI members). SLARI will hold its annual general meeting at 9.30am, with the public section of the day starting at 11am.
