Transition Year teachers who care about health education may like to mark Wednesday, October 8th, in their diaries. St Vincent's Hospital is hosting an afternoon of talks aimed at Transition Year students and their teachers as part of Europe Against Cancer Week. The day has been organised by the hospital's department of preventive medicine/ cardiology education and research centre.
The day begins at 2 p.m. Topics under discussion include skin safety, smoking both active and passive, the patient's experience, current treatment and the European Code against Cancer. The aim of the afternoon is to focus on prevention and early detection of cancer, says Denise Comerford, health promotion co-ordinator at St Vincent's education and research centre.
