Where did you go to school?

Scoil Shailearna and Coláiste Cholm Cille Indreabhán, Co na Gaillimhe.

What was your best subject?

Gaeilge was my best subject and I also enjoyed mathematics. I had quite a bit of difficulty with maths initially, but after some help from a remedial teacher in primary school, Philomena Ní Dhúill, it became one of my favourite subjects.

Who was your favourite teacher and why?

Tom Sailí Ó Flatharta was my favourite teacher. He taught me Gaeilge and drama. I loved his classes and he was great craic. He retired from teaching but is still acting up! You can see him in Ros na Rún as Coilín, the long-suffering brother of the cantankerous Séamus.

Who was your childhood idol?

Johnny Logan was my first love and idol!

Who was your best friend and why?

Áine Lally was my best friend, she lived up the road and we went to school together. As the only daughter in a big family of boys she always had great toys to play with and was very generous.

What is he/she doing now?

Áine works for Nuacht TG4 as a journalist and co-presents a summer show, Féilte, as well. We see each other at work and hang out. I'm still robbing from her wardrobe.

What TV show/film most reminds you of your schooldays?

Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

What song most reminds you of your schooldays?

Singing Frankie Do You Remember Me by Sister Sledge with Áine on the stage in the lounge of her dad's pub in the middle of the day.

What food most reminds you of your schooldays?

Homemade pancakes. My mom used to make them for us on Wednesdays because we went to swimming lessons directly after school. They were such a treat!

Who did you take to your debs?

Brian Gardiner. My sister Fiona married his brother Laurie a few years later!

Would you send your children to the same school you went to?

Yes. The teachers were great and that's what counts.

What was the best thing about your education?

I was fortunate enough to have some really great teachers who went (and still go) above and beyond the call of duty to try to give their students the confidence to believe that they can achieve whatever they want.

What was the worst thing about your education?

I'm a night owl, so having to get up in the morning was the worst part of my day. Other than that, I wish music was compulsory.
