The DIT became the latest college to proceed to the quarter-finals of Challenging Times, the Irish Times/RTE quiz for third-level colleges, following its defeat of Sligo RTC.
The DIT has not enjoyed noticeable success in Challenging Times in recent years, despite forming a single DIT team rather than fielding teams from each individual college, as was the tradition in the early years of the competition. The victory over Sligo, by 175 to 130, means that the DIT now has a team in the quarter finals for the first time since 1993, when Bolton Street made it all the way to the final before being defeated by UCC.
The DIT was represented by Ronan O'Keeffe, Bryan O'Connell, Brendan Dunne and sub Shane Prendergast. Sligo's team consisted of Gregory Kelly, Liam Rabbitte, Jonathan O'Brien and sub Killian Glynn. DIT now go on to face the Honourable Society of King's Inns in the next round.
Next week sees a clash of the titans, as a team from UCD meets UL, last year's beaten finalists. Challenging Times can be seen each Monday on Network 2 at 8 p.m. The question-master is, as ever, the Man with the Tan, Kevin Myers.
