The European Commission has awarded £1,965,067 (€2,495,121) to Irish organisations to develop vocational training in Ireland through the Leonardo da Vinci programme in 2001.
Five major new projects will be funded in clinical risk management, forestry, in aquaculture and the wholesale and retail sectors.
Intersource Group (Ireland) will lead a project to improve medico-legal risk management in four European countries. Eurofortech will increase forestry sector competitiveness through computer-aided logistics technology. AquaTT's project is to develop an interactive multi-lingual database website for the aquaculture sector and the Wholesale and Retail Training Council will develop a multi-media training programme for owner- managers in the retail sector here, in Spain, Austria, Cyprus and Britain.
Thirty-two colleges and training organisations around the State will also receive funding to send students and their trainers abroad for work experience.
