An information pack on IT is available to primary school teachers from the INTO's head offices - 35 Parnell Square, Dubln 1. The INTO pack, called The Education Technology Starter Pack, includes a glossary of terms, a list of recommended software packages, WWW addresses for teachers and pupils, information on software retailers and publishers and lists of hardware manufacturers and suppliers. Compiled by the union's full-time IT official, Kathryn Crowley, the aim of the pack is to answer teachers' qualms, queries and worries about technology.
Crowley is also identifying schools already using IT effectively. These will form a network across the country so that neighbouring schools can come and see first hand what's possible. These "magnet schools" will allow teachers to see the technology being used in the classroom, and help convince teachers of the potential of education technology. They will also be used at a later date to help in the delivery of IT in-service courses.
