Japanese teachers have less input than in the past in textbook selection for public schools, a survey has found.
Textbook choices are increasingly being made by boards of education, the survey shows. The trend reflects the view of the Japanese Society for History Textbook Reform, which wants to abolish the way textbooks are chosen and solicit more input from parents. That society was involved in producing and promoting a history textbook that has been condemned by the Chinese and South Korean governments.
