BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Entering a sexual relationship is a big decision for any teenager. Is it the right time? Is this the right person? Before you decide, check out b4udecide.ie, a resource from the Crisis Pregnancy Agency, which aims to arm young people with the facts about relationships and sexuality. The site contains information on healthy and unhealthy relationships, break-ups, the unspoken pressure to have sex, and self-esteem. There’s advice on how to say no, develop a positive image of yourself, and staying safe, while students who think they may be gay or bisexual will also find useful resources.

BUSINESS BOOT CAMP

Last week, 600 students from Kerry and Limerick put their business acumen to the test at Business Boot Camp, held in Tralee. Ideas included satnav hiking boots and a milk carton crusher, and students heard from a host of well-known speakers, including Colum O’Sullivan, co-founder of food company Cully Sully, Kerry football team manager Jack O’Connor, and Michael Carey, chief executive of Jacob Fruitfield Food Group.

The programme will culminate in an awards ceremony in April, with prizes awarded in three categories: second level, third level, and best school. Shortlisted finalists will receive a two-week apprenticeship with mentor companies.
