Free Workshop: Next Saturday a free modern language workshop will be run in TCD between 10am and 1pm by Authentik Language Learning Resources. It will concentrate on the development of language learning strategies and exam skills for Leaving Cert students of French, German and Spanish. Website: A new careers information database website, was officially launched by the Minister for Education and Science, Micheal Martin in the Patrician Secondary School, Newbridge, Co Kildare, last week. Two guidance counsellors are responsible for the site, which has information on a variety of careers, courses and colleges as well as how to apply. The site is constructed and designed by Marius Fitzsimons and researched by Seamus Casey.
RTC Advice: A CAO advisory evening about the RTC system will be held in RTC Tallaght this Thursday between 5.30pm and 9pm. There will be expert information on the CAO system, its application proceedures, advice on CERT and on a range of courses and careers including business, languages, science, computing and engineering.
New CAO Guide: The latest edition of a guide to all the CAO courses available in institutions of all sorts in Ireland has just been launched by Eamonn P O'Boyle, a Dundalk, Co Louth, based guidance counsellor.
The All-Ireland University and College Guide has information about getting into the universities, RTCs and other third-level colleges as well as details on the different sources of funding currently available to college applicants. This is the 17th edition. It costs £8.50 and is available in Easons and all good bookshops nationwide.
Youth Centres: It's worth remembering that there are 25 youth information centres located around the country. Funded by the Department of Education and Science, they provide a free drop-in and telephone information service on a wide range of subjects. A list of the centres can be found in the youth section of the Golden Pages directory.
