Youth paper

Want to express yourself in a newspaper written and illustrated by young people aged between 15 and 20 to celebrate the year 2000. The International Youth Paper is being prepared with contributions from young people from all over the world. The newspaper is being organised by the French J. Presse organisation, which has worked on the creation of a youth press network in Europe since 1997.

Interested parties are invited to send articles, drawings, photographs, comics, mail-art, poems, short stories or collage. It can be a real experience, a testimony, a portrait, an inquiry, a report or an interview. The text must not be over 4,500 characters - that's about 1,000 words.

You are also invited tell about your personal resolution for the year 2000. This should have a maximum length of 500 characters - about 100 words.

Career convention

Crescent College Comprehensive in Dooradoyle, Limerick, holds its annual careers convention for the mid-west on Friday, January 15th. It starts at 7.30 p.m. and is free to students and parents. For information, phone the school at (061) 229655.

Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology hosts open days for students on Wednesday and Thursday, January 20th and 21st. Two sessions will be held each day - from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Entry is £1.

An exhibition on third-level education is running at Dublin Corporation's community and youth information centre in Sackville House, Sackville Place, off O'Connell Street. It's open until the end of the month - on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 9.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The event provides information on courses in Ireland and abroad, grants and scholarships. Raymond Dunne's latest book, Applying to College '99, is full of information on CAO courses, UCAS systems, PLC courses, nursing, hotel, catering and tourism, agriculture courses, apprenticeships and accountancy.
