Prepare Your Child For Reading Lecture
Alice Quinn, education consultant, will present a free lecture entitled “What you can do to prepare your child for reading and other essential life skills” at Oakhill School, Foxrock, Co Dublin on Tuesday, April 28th at 8pm. CIT Lecture Series on Climate Change
Cork Institute of Technology hosts the 2009 Siemens Lecture Series during the month of May, featuring a series of topics relating to climate change. The lectures take place on Wednesday, May 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th from 1pm to 2pm in the IT Building, CIT Bishopstown Campus. The lectures are free and open to the public.
Tom Bean will give the first lecture on climate change, on May 6th in IT3. The second lecture, The Business of Climate Change, is by David Korowicz and takes place on May 13th in IT3. The third, The Engineering Challenge of Climate Change, will be given by Owenroe Lemass on May 20th in IT1. Special Educational Needs and the Law Training Courses
A one-day training course – “Special Educational Needs and the Law” – will be held in Galway on Saturday, May 9th at Days Hotel and in Dublin at The Mount Herbert Hotel on Saturday, May 16th. The course will be of interest to primary and second-level teachers, members of boards of management, psychologists, health professionals, parents and representatives of relevant organisations. The University of Limerick is offering second-level students a four-day summer Introduction to University Programme (IUP) designed to help them decide between the range of career and third-level course options and also to experience college life.

Radio for Primary School Children
Dublin’s Irish Language radio station, Raidió na Life 106.4FM, is broadcasting a radio series for children hosted by primary school student Joshua Kieran Glennon. Raidio na nÓg is a 10-part series funded by the BCI sound and vision scheme. The series is on Wednesdays at 6.30pm. The show will also be available to download as a podcast in the classroom from www.rnanog.com.
The series features views from primary school children, covering issues such as cutbacks to pocket money, most embarrassing classroom moments, advice for An Taoiseach and undercover reports on what really happens in the teacher’s staff room. The show includes music and travel reports, comedy sketch shows, work experience with a twist and Rap songs as Gaeilge.
MA in Visual Arts Education at NCAD
A new taught two-year programme at the NCAD, the course focuses on educational leadership in the arts, incorporating arts-led curriculum planning and community participation.
