The certificate and diploma programmes in hotel management offered by Dublin's Griffith College are accredited by the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Motel Association (AH&MA). This institute has more than 40 years' experience researching and designing programmes tailored to the needs of the hospitality industry.
Griffith's hospitality management diploma takes in 12 courses and prepares students for upper-level management positions. The college explains that completion of the courses gives the student "a thorough understanding of management principles and their operation in every department."
Course subjects include hospitality industry, front office, housekeeping, human resources and security management. Designed to run over 18 months, the diploma programme is full-time and combines both academic and practical training. Students spend five months, from May to September, on work placements in the industry during which they are paid a trainee wage.
The Griffith College diploma makes students eligible for membership of HCIMA, the Hotel Catering and Institutional Management Association (HCIMA) in Britain. A part-time programme at Griffith enables those currently employed to pursue AH&MA hospitality certificates and diploma programmes.
