THE Association of Teachers of English will meet in the Dublin Writers Museum this Saturday at 2.30pm to discuss the Department of Education and Science's report on the 1997 Leaving Cert higher English exam. The report "represents a significant advance in communications between the Department and teachers of English," says Kate O'Carroll, ATE chairwoman, who explains that Pat Coffey, inspector with responsibility for higher-level English, "would appreciate reaction and comments." There will also be an update on to the new Leaving Cert syllabus to be introduced in September, 1999.
Nonmembers of ATE will be charged £3 to attend. Travel costs for members will be paid. For information phone Kate O'Carroll at (01) 671 1435.
