Dublin University Players has been named Society of the Year by the Board of Irish College Societies.
The Trinity drama club took the top prize at the AIB National Society of the Year Awards, which drew entries from 12 colleges and universities. The contest took place in NUI Maynooth at the end of last month when society members were interviewed by four panels of judges. Each panel of three judges included a representative of the Board of Irish College Societies, NUI Maynooth and the sponsors.
The society adjudged to have organised the best event this year was the Wargaming and Role Playing Society (WARPS) from University College Cork, who hosted the Warpcon IX Games Convention. A Cork society was also named best new or improved society - Cork Institute of Technology's Web and Game Development Society. The Special Achievement award went to the History Society in the University of Limerick, while DIT's Martin Byrne earned student theatre another plaudit when he took the Best Society Individual of the Year prize.
