If you're a student of art, art history or another related area and speak fluent English and Italian, you could qualify to become an intern at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (of modern art, that is) in Venice.

The internship programme which is of one, two or three months' duration, is designed to give university students from different cultures an opportunity to gain practical experience of museology and familiarity with an important collection of modern art. As an intern you will be required to staff the gallery during the day and answer hundreds of mostly friendly tourist questions. However, the programme also promises weekly seminars to discuss museology and modern art.

You may also carry out independent study programmes and visit other museums and exhibitions both in and outside Venice.

The museum offers a contribution of 1.2 million lire per month to living expenses. However, that impressive-sounding figure amounts to less than £500, and since living in Venice is expensive you will certainly need extra support.
