APSO is the national agency which recruits Irish people to fill teaching, training and support positions in the developing world. Countries in Africa, Asia, Central America and Eastern Europe all need skilled people to help them develop their economies and administer services and APSO has a continuous need for volunteers willing to take on assignments which are normally for a two-year period.
People go to work with APSO for a variety of reasons. Some want a complete break from their present work to travel and broaden their horizons, others want to share their skills. Either way, APSO is interested in hearing from anyone with skills to share. Those with experience in healthcare, agriculture, all types of therapy, teaching and practical skills such as engineering and carpentry are all needed.
Volunteers are paid a living allowance and accommodation is provided as are return airfares, insurance and a resettlement grant on return to Ireland. PRSI contributions are also normally covered while the volunteer is away.
Anyone interested in going overseas with APSO should first fill out an enquiry card which can be obtained from APSO at 29-30 Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin 2. Phone (01) 661 4411, fax (01) 661 4202, email recruit@apso.ie
