Police in the Scottish university town of St Andrew's have requested extra funding to provide protection for Prince William. Last week, Fife police made their request to the Scottish Executive for an extra £114,000 prior to the arrival of the prince to study at the university next autumn. It has been estimated that an extra 12 to 14 officers will be required to provide round-the-clock security when William begins his four year art history degree course.
In addition to police protection, the university is trying to safeguard William's privacy. The principal, Dr Brian Lang, warned that a "very dim view" would be taken of any member of the university staff or student body who spoke to the media concerning Prince William.
