Eight children were taken to hospital today after a school bus crashed in Co Down. The vehicle collided with a van as it took around a dozen pupils to classes at Cloughoge Primary, just outside Newry.
Parents and teachers rushed to the scene on the Forkhill Road just before 9am. Although most of the youngsters escaped unharmed, eight needed treatment at the nearby Daisy Hill Hospital.
A hospital spokesman confirmed the children, aged 4-8, suffered shock and minor injuries. All were later discharged. Their school principal, Robert Keogh, went with them. The van driver was also checked for suspected whiplash.
