Eight million cigarettes seized

Customs officers at Dublin port have seized eight million cigarettes worth an estimated €3.1 million.

Customs officers at Dublin port have seized eight million cigarettes worth an estimated €3.1 million.

A Revenue spokesman said the Palace brand cigarettes arrived on a ship into Dublin port from Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates via Antwerp on Wednesday.

The cigarettes were found this morning in a consignment marked ‘heaters’.

A truck and a container were seized by Customs officers. Investigations are ongoing both nationally and internationally.
