Eight Palestinians were wounded, one seriously, in a clash with Israeli soldiers in the West Bank town of Hebron today, hospital sources said.
The soldiers advanced several dozen metres into a part of the town under the control of the Palestinian Authority near the Abu Sneina neighbourhood, the sources said.
Some 400 Jewish settlers live in a heavily-guarded compound in the centre of Hebron, surrounded by 120,000 Palestinians.
Palestinian gunmen in Abu Sneina had earlier fired on the nearby settlement, but no injuries were reported, Israeli military radio said.
