Eight people were injured today when a bus was hit by a powerful mine explosion in Sri Lanka's northeastern port district of Trincomalee.
The military blamed the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam for the attack.
Seven passengers and the driver of the bus were seriously injured, a defence ministry spokesman said. About a dozen passengers were in the bus at the time of the attack.
"We believe it was a claymore mine attack that was triggered using a remote controlled device," the spokesman said.
