Eircom have posted first quarter profits of €173 million, an increase of 4 per cent over last year.
Group revenue also increased to €514 million, a 4 per cent increase on last year's corresponding period.
EBITDA profits at the company rose on the back of strong performance by Meteor.
Meteor's Mobile subscribers increased by 24 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter last year adding 33,000 net subscribers for the quarter, resulting in total subscribers of 908,000 as of September 2007. Post-paid subscribers have now reached 109,000.
Eircom also said that the broadband take-up in Ireland is continuing to grow with 35,000 DSL customers coming on board bringing the total number of DSL subscribers on eircom's network to 490,000 by the end of September.
Broadband penetration in Ireland currently stands at 18.4 per cent of the population just below the OECD average of 18.8 per cent.
The group also said that 220 applications for voluntary redundancy had been accepted and the company expects to make continued progress on reaching its target pay costs by the end of 2009.
