Elective surgery at Sligo General Hospital has been cancelled until at least next Wednesday as the hospital implements measures to control the winter vomiting virus which has affected 16 patients.
The North Western Health Board has said nine people are still suffering from the symptoms of the virus at the hospital Sligo General Hospital.
Management are appealing to the public to co-operate with their control measures which include restricted visiting arrangements.
According to the board's Public Health specialist, Dr Anthony Breslin, visitors should be restricted to one patient. "The winter bug (Norovirus) spreads very easily and it takes a lot of work to stop it infecting patients.
The hospital staff are working very hard to control the infection and the co-operation of the public is very important," he said.
The issue will be reviewed next Wednesday.
