ROXY MUSIC, a band synonymous with their suave frontman Bryan Ferry, are to be one of the headline acts at Electric Picnic in September.

Yesterday’s line-up announcement was dominated by reforming acts and Electric Picnickers will hope Public Image Limited (PiL), fronted by John Lydon, will do better than the Sex Pistols’ shambolic headline act at the festival in 2008.

Influential 1990s electronica outfit Leftfield will return for the first time to live performances for more than 10 years.

There is a strong electro element, including LCD Soundsystem, Massive Attack, German house duo Booka Shade, Crystal Castles, the Big Pink, Mancunian veterans 808 State and Irish rap duo Messiah J and the Expert.

Festival booker Declan Forde said many people will look forward to PiL’s first Irish show and getting Leftfield was a “real coup” – but Electric Picnic was operating in a tough environment.

Choice music prize winner Adrian Crowley, rockabilly singer Imelda May and Villagers make up some of the home contingent along with the Frames, Paul Brady and Afro-Celt Soundsystem.

Tickets go on sale this Friday and are priced at €240 each. Each adult can bring up to two children for free. The festival takes place at Stradbally, Co Laois, on September 3rd-5th.
