A CAVALCADE of electric cars through the capital marked the opening of the Innovation Dublin 2010 festival yesterday.
The cavalcade escorted the Lord Mayor of Dublin Gerry Breen to the Wood Quay venue in Dublin City Council’s Civic Offices, where he and Minister of State for Innovation Conor Lenihan opened the festival.
Hundreds of events will be run across the city and county during the festival, which runs until November 21st.
The focus will be on promoting innovation and creativity in the capital and will include a wide range of seminars, workshops, discussions, exhibitions, showcases, performances and competitions.
The idea for the event was conceived last year by the Creative Dublin Alliance, which co-ordinated the inaugural festival in conjunction with Dublin City Council. More than 40,000 visitors attended last year’s 456 events, which encouraged organisers to make the festival an annual affair.
Innovation Dublin says its aim is to provide Dubliners – whether entrepreneurs, students, artists, researchers or large corporations – with an opportunity to discuss, promote and celebrate innovation in the city.
Further details can be found on www.innovation dublin.ie The organisers of the festival have also made available a free iPhone app, which lists all the events planned for Dublin city and county.
The app can be found on the Innovation Dublin website and includes a facility to browse by date, venue or Google map, while also including a Newsfeed and Twitterfeed to keep subscribers updated with all the latest articles and comments from festival events.
