More than 6,000 electricians are go on strike on June 10th, it emerged today.
The strike will hit severely affect the construction industry or any companies - such as shops, factories, or small hospitals - that contract out their electrical work. It will also affect people hoping to have electical work done in their homes.
The workers voted by 95 per cent for a national strike in the electrical contracting sector over the weekend and met this morning to finalise a date for action.
The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union says a 1 per cent once-off payment for inflation due under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness has not been paid.
It also says employers have failed to agree a new pay rate for the industry, due to come into effect on April 1st.
The dispute concerns several hundred employers across the State.
