Canadian owned electronics plant Celestica is to create 120 new jobs at its factory in Co Galway

Canadian owned electronics plant Celestica is to create 120 new jobs at its factory in Co Galway. The firm already employs 320 people there.

As part of the expansion Celestica is to manufacture fuel cell power packs for use with mobile phones and other electronic devices such as iPods and MP3 players.

Among the staff being sought by Celestica are engineers, chemists and quality control specialists.

Speaking in Galway the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin said it was an example of how the West of Ireland can attract and support sophisticated investment.

"The level of automation in this project is exceptional and signals a very positive direction in Irish-based manufacturing towards state-of-the-art automation which requires a skilled workforce to operate and maintain," Mr Martin said.
