Eleven people, including ten tourists, were injured today when a coach full of German tourists smashed into a pharmacy in one of central London's busiest shopping streets.
The 65-year-old coach driver and a 15-year-old passenger sustained head injuries in the crash, which occurred on Regent Street. Another passenger was also hospitalised with injuries form broken glass, while seven other suffered minor injuries.
Two hours after the accident, the coach - which bore the name "Schumacher" on its back and sides - was still stuck in the entrance of Boots the Chemist.
"I had just been to a church service with a friend and was walking down the road when I saw the coach coming towards me," explained witness John Cohen, 69.
"It's a miracle there were no vehicles or pedestrians in the way," he added. "The driver must have been having a fit or a heart attack because I could see him having a convulsion."
A fire services official added: "The driver seems to have either collapsed or fainted at the wheel. It's amazing there were no people injured on the street on a bank holiday weekend."
