Eleven people arrested during a joint operation between members of the Galway Drugs Unit and the National Drugs Unit appeared before a special sitting of Galway District Court yesterday afternoon.
Six of those arrested were remanded in custody by Judge Mary Fahy as gardaí objected strenuously to their applications for bail, under section two of the Bail Act, 1997.
The other five people were granted bail with conditions attached and will appear before the District Court in Galway again on June 25th.
Gavin Rowe (31), Rahylin Glebe, Ballybane, faces six charges in connection with possession of cocaine at Sally Long's pub, Abbeygate Street, Galway, and with having the drug for sale or supply to others on three separate dates in March, April and May.
Richard Dalton, Corrib Park, Newcastle, Galway, also faces six charges of having cocaine and ecstasy in his possession and having the drug for sale or supply at the same pub on three dates in March.
David Kenny (27), Heather Grove, Ballybane, Galway, faces seven charges of having cannabis, ecstasy and cocaine for sale or supply to others on various dates in March, while Brian Counihan (37), a roofer from Baranna, Annaghdown, was also remanded in custody charged with eight counts of having heroin in his possession for sale or supply to others at various venues, including University College Hospital, Galway, on dates in January and February.
Zak Hudson, Fana Glas, Ballybane, Galway, is charged with eight counts of having heroin in his possession and having the drug for sale or supply to others on various dates in March and April last.
He was remanded in custody also, along with Stephen Keary (38), with addresses at Ballybrit Cottages, Ballybrit, Galway, and Doughiska Road, Galway, who is charged with eight counts of having heroin in his possession and having the drug for sale or supply to others on various dates in March and April at three different locations in the city.
The five accused who were granted bail are Julia Simpson (49), Renmore Park, Galway; Jonathan King (29), An Sean Bhaile, Doughiska, Galway; Eddie Sweeney (28), St Finbar's Terrace, Bohermore, Galway; Patrick Morton (51), An Sean Bhaile, Doughiska, Galway; and John Paul Flaherty (26), Barry Avenue, Mervue, Galway.
