Superstar rapper Eminem has cancelled his European tour which includes his sell-out concert at Slane castle, Co Meath, on September 17th.

The reasons given for the cancellation were the hip-hop artist's exhaustion and other medical issues.

On June 10th, 80,000 tickets for the Slane concert were sold out in just over an hour of going on sale. It was the last concert scheduled for his European tour.

Full ticket refunds will be available from the point of purchase tomorrow from noon.

Eminem made the announcement yesterday, saying that he would be cancelling all his European tour dates, which ran from September 1st to 17th.

A statement issued on his behalf by his record company Interscope said: "Eminem is currently being treated for exhaustion, complicated by other medical issues. The shows are not expected to be rescheduled."

Promoters MCD said the concert had unfortunately been cancelled and there would be no replacement concert for that night, Saturday, September 17th.

The company apologised to all Eminem fans for any inconvenience caused and said full refunds would be made.

Slane Castle owner Lord Mount Charles yesterday said he was "stunned" to hear about the cancellation. On holiday in the US, he said he was told about the decision when his personal assistant phoned at 7am. "In all the many years that Slane has been running, we've never been confronted by a scenario like this," he said on RTÉ radio.

He said he did not think the Rolling Stones or U2 would cancel a section of a tour owing to nervous exhaustion. Other stars who have played at Slane include Madonna, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.

"Quite frankly I'm very taken aback. I'm trying to be judicious with my words. Brittle is certainly something this artist has a reputation for but to effectively have his record company issuing a statement even prior to people like me being informed is to say the least a little bit strange," Lord Henry said."It is a great disappointment. . . He is a stunning artist. I don't think he'll get a slot at Slane again."

Lord Mount Charles said that of course it had a negative financial impact. "That is part of life and the show must go on, but obviously there won't be a show this year," he said.

"I don't deem that I have had a proper explanation and I don't think we have been informed in an appropriate fashion."

He added: "One has to be philosophical in life so c'est la vie. It's only rock and roll after all."

The concerts were part of Eminem's Anger Management 3 tour. He headlined a bill with other acts, including 50 Cent, D-12, Obie-Trice and Stat Quo.

The concerts included three UK venues and others in France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. The 23-date US tour ended on Saturday.

Last month, Eminem dismissed reports that he was retiring from the music business, saying he was taking a break to produce other artists.
