The Government has appointed 103 members to the Employment Appeals Tribunal for the new term of office that began last Friday.

The tribunal is an independent body bound set up to provide a speedy, fair, inexpensive and informal means for individuals to seek remedies for alleged infringements of their statutory rights.

It now consists of a chairperson, 31 vice-chairmen and a panel of 72 other members - 36 nominated by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and 36 nominated by organisations that represent employers.

Barrister Ms. Kate O'Mahony is the sitting chairperson of the tribunal, whose term of office will expire next January.

Ms. O'Mahony, originally appointed to the position of chairperson almost two years ago, is continuing the process of reorganisation and development of the tribunal.
