London - Thirty of England's most historic cinemas are to be given special protection as listed buildings, English Heritage said. "Historic cinema buildings are held in great affection and give people a vital link with the past," the society said. They ranged from the tiny 1911 Electric Cinema in London's Portobello Road to sumptuous 1930s Art Deco cinemas complete with Wurlitzer organs, chandeliers and gilt mirrored foyers.
