THE MANAGEMENT and leadership at Ennis General Hospital will be examined during the forthcoming independent investigation into the safety of services provided at the hospital, it was confirmed yesterday.
The investigation, prompted by the deaths of Ann Moriarty and Edel Kelly, whose cancer was misdiagnosed at the facility, will also look at the referral, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients.
It will also look at communication between staff and patients, particularly when patient safety incidents occur and when complaints are made.
The investigation, to be carried out within three months, is being undertaken by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).
The authority yesterday published the eight terms of reference for its inquiry.
The authority said that these could be expanded if this was felt necessary during its investigation.
