Water services, waste disposal and the problem of disposing of tyres in the North and the South were among the issues discussed by members of the Oireachtas environment committee when they met their Northern Assembly counterparts at Stormont yesterday.

Ciarán Lynch, Labour TD and chairman of the committee, said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues of mutual interest, including water provision, planning regulations, waste management and the arts. They also discussed the possibility of a joint approach to retail and industrial outlets, management of used tyres and climate change, Mr Lynch added. The environment committee also covers transport, culture and the Gaeltacht.
