England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has called up five new faces for Wednesday's friendly
international against Sweden in Gothenburg.

Norwich City goalkeeper Robert Green, Aston Villa full back Jlloyd Samuel, Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson, Manchester City wing back Shaun Wright-Phillips and Tottenham Hotspur striker
Jermain Defoe were all included in the squad named by Eriksson tonight.

Captain David Beckham, who has a thigh injury, was also named although his fitness is in doubt. Liverpool striker Michael Owen, who has a hamstring injury, was left out, together
with Arsenal defender Sol Campbell, who has a groin problem.

Tottenham centre back Anthony Gardner also earned a place in the squad but the selection of Green was the most surprising.

The 24-year-old has, however, been a key figure in Norwich's promotion charge to the top of division one this season.

Manchester United pair Paul Scholes and Gary Neville were also omitted but Leeds United striker Alan Smith was called up as Eriksson took the chance to examine other options ahead of the Euro 2004 tournament that starts in June.
